| - | MHOR Bakery and Tea Rooms is a family business in the Trossachs run by Tom, Dick and Melanie Lewis and includes a farm, hotel, fishmongers, restaurant, and fish and chip shop, together with a bakery in Callander which will form the main part of Tom and Dick’s presentation. They bought the Scotch Oven bakery, shop and tearoom in Callander in March 2007, which has been supplying baked products in the area for over a hundred years. Their aim was to expand the business, preserving what is best in quality Scottish baking and to introduce a new range of artisan breads. All the bread is still made traditionally by hand, using flour milled in Scotland and without the use of preservatives. They produce a sliced and wrapped pan loaf to compete with the supermarket plant bread but of better quality and still reasonably priced. Old classics such as Black Bun, Buttered Bannocks and Perkins are also being kept alive. The popular new range of artisan breads includes black olive and rosemary, red onion and poppy seed, cheese and onion, multigrain, and fennel and caraway seed. When they took over the bakery it was in a poor condition but they found that the bakers all possessed excellent craft skills but hadn't been able to us them for years. They got them back to producing traditional breads, together with the new artisan range. They also stripped out the front of the shop and the adjoining tearoom and gave it the white, chic look that is fast becoming the Mhor signature design. Now the Mhor bakery and tearoom are selling in a month what they used to sell in a year and are also supplying some of the local restaurants. | ||
